One grand omission on those to watch tonight is B.J. Daniels. The former South Florida quarterback might be the most intriguing player on the field. He has gotten looks at wide receiver, running back and kick returner, however he might not be fast enough for those positions. His home will eventually be quarterback more than likely and it’s a position he can play.
He will remind fans a little of Russell Wilson. Listed at 5-11, Daniels was the 31st selection in the seventh round this spring, just a few slots away from the Mr. Irrelevant Award, which goes to the last player drafted.
Daniels has been anything but irrelevant; His arm strength and instincts are impressive. He’s a raw and has a long way to go, but don’t be surprised if he’s the one you are talking about tomorrow morning around the water cooler.
The 49ers have to be somewhat careful with him. If he shows promise, it would be tough to hide him on the practice squad. But that would be a good problem for the 49ers’ to have.
Daniels came for a read-option, spread offense at South Florida, so he could be an ideal back up for Colin Kaepernick. Daniels can do everything Kaepernick can do. Tonight might determine how well he can those things.
