Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio was happy to learn he had been added to one of the rosters for the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge game.

Rubio was not among the original players invited to play in the Feb. 15 game, which will showcase the league’s top rookies and second-year players during all-star weekend festivities at Houston.

“When they first put out the list, I wasn’t playing good, but lately I’ve been feeling more confident,” Rubio said Friday, Feb. 8, after the Wolves’ shootaround. “I’m happy to be going. It means I put in the work to get there.”

Rubio, working his way back into form after a major knee injury last season, is averaging 10.3 points, 8.5 assists and 2.3 steals in the Wolves’ last six games. He played in the 2012 Rising Stars game and will join Wolves rookie Alexey Shved in this year’s game.

Rubio said he will leave Houston the morning after the game so he can rest during the all-star break.

“It’ll be fun to be there with all the stars, but Saturday morning I’m gone,” Rubio said.
