The face of Major League Baseball is that of the Reds’ first baseman Joey Votto after he won a social media competition that pitted him against other top players in the league.

In the “Face of MLB” Twitter competition, Votto went head-to-head with Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp and the Redleg came out on top Friday afternoon with 67 percent of the votes compared to Kemp’s 33 percent. More than 690,000 fans cast their votes in promotion.

Votto squared off against Kemp on Monday and fans had until Friday at 6:30 a.m. to get their Twitter votes in for the well-known Reds player.

Reds fans turned out in full force to support No. 19 since the MLB competition began. Votto breezed past Minnesota Twins’ Joe Mauer, Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista, the Yankee’s Derek Jeter and the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen to make it to the finals.

Fans helped lead the Golden Glove Award recipient to the top by using the hashtag “ JoeyVotto .” Each tweet with the hashtag, including retweets, counted as one vote.
