All Mikael Kingsbury was thinking while attempting his jump during the moguls competition Friday in the final World Cup competition of the season was playing it safe and sticking the landing.

The Deux-Montagnes, Que., native finished fourth in Sierra Nevada, Spain to clinch his second consecutive World Cup freestyle season title, as well as the moguls discipline title.

Kingsbury, who turns 21 in the off-season, will likely be the man to beat for the 2014 Sochi Games. But he wants to approach the Olympics with an underdog’s mentality.

“I’m going to train hard and focus only on my training for the Olympics and doing what I need to win there,” he said. “I’m going to get stronger at the gym and do another big step forward.”

Kingsbury led an impressive Canadian moguls squad. His biggest competition was 2010 Olympic champion Alex Bilodeau of Rosemere, Que., who won Friday’s competition and finished second in both the moguls and overall freestyle season standings.
