The Washington Redskins made their playoff run last season without Brian Orakpo, their biggest defensive chip. A team with high aspirations this season, the Redskins are glad the outside linebacker said he’s more than recovered from surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.
“I’m 100, 200, 300 (percent) — whatever that number may be,” Orakpo said Thursday, per the Redskins’ official website. “In OTAs or minicamp, I didn’t miss a day, I didn’t miss a practice. I was ready to go. In training camp, I’m going to be full go.”
Heading into a contract season, Orakpo said he doesn’t need motivation to perform at his previously high level.
“I’m going to rip it up this year,” he said. “I have high expectations. I want to win, be in contention for Defensive Player of the Year, get Comeback Player of the Year.”
The Redskins‘ most dynamic defensive player played in just two games in 2012. His health is a game-changer for a team that relied on its Robert Griffin III-led offense to carry the load last season.
