Michigan State coach Tom Izzo admits he’s disappointed his team has lost two straight, but he’s not about say it’s the beginning of the end for the ninth-ranked Spartans.

After losses last week to No. 1 Indiana at home and on the road against No. 16 Ohio State, there are many questions surrounding the program, specifically the play of Keith Appling.

However, Izzo was quick to point out other teams around the nation are in a much tougher spot than Michigan State, which has lost two straight to ranked teams and been in each game this season with chance to win in the final minutes.

“I’m not as frustrated as our fans or other people,” Izzo said at his weekly news conference Tuesday. “It’s a joke, if I can be blunt about it.”

As Michigan State (22-6, 11-4 Big Ten) gets some time this week to prepare for its matchup with No. 4 Michigan (23-4, 10-4) on Sunday, Izzo is concerned too much of the pressure is being put on Appling.

The junior guard struggled in the two losses, going a combined 2-for-14 and turning the ball over seven times.

“I would not consider this any reason to panic,” Izzo said. “It was disappointing, but I’m more concerned with making sure everybody doesn’t heap everything on Keith. Other guys were supposed to do their jobs (against Ohio State) that didn’t and there were adjustments I didn’t make.

Izzo said he planned to meet with Appling again later on Tuesday but reiterated that Appling is not hurt.
